“To dive in to the musical richness that exists in Bianca has deeply moved me emotionally. Her records are of unique sensitivity” Naná Vasconcellos
Bianca’s entire art was naturally born out of the affective bonds she’s weaved throughout her life. As a due heiress of her father’s musicality – the great composer, pianist and guitarist Egberto Gismonti - she started, at the ripe age of 15, to accompany him on tour around the world. During her musical college years, she befriended Claudia Castelo Branco, another young pianist, with whom would co-found Duo Gisbranco – growing into a successful eleven year career comprising of three albums, one DVD and extensive world-wide touring.
Yet, the encounter with drummer/percussionist Julio Falavigna was bound to happen. Based on Bianca’s new compositions, they’ve taken their personal union over to the musical field, together conceiving and producing Sonhos de Nascimento (Dreams of Birth). Furthermore, from 2013 to 2014, they’d consolidate a trio format alongside bassist Antonio Porto, thus realizing a common sonic identification, touring South America (Brasil, Argentina, Uruguay), Europe (England, Austria, Spain and Portugal) as well as Japan (at the prestigious Cotton Club venue).
Traveling from explorations towards solutions, the larve-like sleep of Sonhos de Nascimento blossoms unto the butterflyish free flight of Primeiro céu (First Sky). Her new 2015 Trio album unveils fresh musical horizons that capture the gist of MPB (with one unexpected new arrangement for Água de Beber by Tom Jobim), jazzy voyages (Olhos Fechados, Cristal), powerful songs (Dança, Mandela) and the lullaby which gave name to the album (Primeiro céu de Marina).
Now for 2016, a full DVD is about to be launched, containing both a studio “making of” the new album as well as exciting live footage from recent concerts.
This concert is an even more significant event than an album premiere.: the celebration of Borbála Dobozy’s 45-year career. Alongside two beloved concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach, she will perform a rarely heard work by Georg Anton Benda and Joseph Haydn’s Concerto in D major, usually played on a piano.
Makám is one of the most renowned Hungarian acts on the ethno, folk, and world music scene.
