The sound of Astillero is forceful, vertiginous, breathtaking, raw yet sophisticated: a rollercoaster ride of throbbing accents modulating into earthshattering pianissimos and beyond. Yet this wild sound is entirely hand-made, free of any gimmicks, 100% acoustic: the sound of just wood and strings, brought to searing life by an acute sense for translating the experience of 21st century urban life into new music, built on a solid traditional foundation of Buenos Aires’ tango.
The orchestra, though featuring the typical instruments of a classic Tango ensemble (two bandoneons, violin, piano, cello, double bass) is a tango formation that has nothing to do with the ‘tango’ of our collective conciousness. Astillero proposes a completely new vision of tango, incisive and intense, rough and violent, refecting the times we live in.
From their all-original instrumental compositions, emerges a Tango that sounds as Buenos Aires sounds today. The way they play their music reflects the incongruities and madness of this urban jungle; it kicks, breaks, hurts, jumps.

The importance of the Blue Note record company can hardly be overstated. The famous blue note-labeled albums recorded the pioneers of bebop after 1945, and then the defining small-band recordings of the hard bop era – these have become the eternal high points of jazz. The soloists of the Modern Art Orchestra, starting from the recordings of the first great era, relive the moments recorded on the blue-and-white label records.
In this concert, piano and chamber music works by Béla Bartók, Jenő Takács, Werner Schulze, and Zsolt Keresztury-Albert will be performed, harmonizing tradition and modernity, presented by the renowned Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra together with outstanding soloists.
As in Anton Webern's work, the short piece, short movement, or musical miniature in György Kurtág's oeuvre is not the result of any form of reduction. It is well known that, for neither composer, brevity refers to the duration of musical processes, but rather to the density of musical communication. The large-scale cycles composed of these dense communications – from The Sayings of Péter Bornemisza to Kafka Fragments and beyond – are particularly characteristic of Kurtág's output.
