Borbély Mihály Polygon (HU)
Featuring:
Mihály Borbély - saxophone, tárogató, clarinet, bass clarinet, flutes
Miklós Lukács - cimbalom
András Dés - percussion
Polygon, a trio with an unorthodox lineup, is the most recently established band of Mihály Borbély, who is equally at home in folk, world, jazz and contemporary music and has won numerous awards. Miklós Lukács, a highly versatile cimbalom player, and András Dés, a percussionist with a unique voice, proved to be ideal partners in creating a unique musical sound. Their improvisational music, with its chamber music sophistication, sometimes melancholic and thought-provoking, sometimes vibrant and drifting, is characterised by a fusion of different jazz styles and the musical heritage of the Carpathian Basin and the Balkans, displaying intriguing melodic turns, sometimes subtly translucent, sometimes powerful rhythms and contemporary music elements. The concerts of this unusual band are exceptionally varied and rich, but at the same time form a unified musical world. Their first concert album featured the world-renowned Bulgarian kaval artist Theodosii Spassov, and their second trio album, Enchantment, was released in 2022. In addition to their concerts in their home country, they have performed to great acclaim in Bulgaria, Estonia, Slovenia and New York.
