It is a unique fusion of different traditions, a magical alchemy that creates a spectacle of encounters between music and dance, between flamenco and jazz. Barencia is a compact group: Xavi Torres, one of the most promising Catalan pianists in European jazz, joins the Florentine drummer Bernardo Guerra, known for his ongoing collaborations with Stefano Bollani, and the young double bass player Michelangelo Scandroglio, an emerging talent on the Italian scene. The compositions of the leaders, Torres and Scandroglio, seem to draw in the dancing of Marina Paje. Marina is a brave, creative, and original dancer. What’s more, her background in contemporary dance is taking the group to new horizons.

Featuring:

Xavi Torres - piano
Michelangelo Scandroglio - double bass
Bernardo Guerra - drums
Marina Paje - dance

The series A Genius Is Born is a tribute to the male choir works by the three greatest Hungarian masters of music, so it is no coincidence that the concerts are taking place on the composers' birthdays. A special feature of the concert programme is that StEFREM's personal selection of works by the classical composers is complemented by outstanding and interesting pieces by their "heirs", the Hungarian composers of the 20th and 21st centuries.

The Daveform Quintet, specialised on modern jazz, creates a unique fusion of American, Scandinavian and Balkan jazz, with room for large-scale improvisations. From jazz ballads to contemporary classical music and sloppy grooves, the guys show off a wide range of musical devices.
