Besides ancient instruments, such as cajon, bongo, macaras or kalimba, Mogyoró’s set features the modern steel drum, handpan and Roland HPD-20, too, while Papesch will also play the rather rarely encountered tenor bass guitar. In some songs, they are joined by Szabolcs Németh, an excellent artist of the Australian didgeridoo and the African cora lute. In this concert, ancient rhythms blend with today’s musical trends, by means of modern technology and the performance of extraordinary musicians.
Vivaldi wrote concertos, cantatas and sacred vocal music also composed. A selection of these works is presented by György Lakatos, the Concerto Armonico Budapest, and guest soloists in their concert series arriving to its 11th episode. Jü, formed in 2012, has become, by now, one of the most exciting jazz acts on the Hungarian music scene. With each successive release, the world of the Budapest-based trio band seems to become exponentially larger and encompass an ever-expanding range of vibrant and startling influences.
Listening to the recording published under the title Conversation, recorded at a gig in Munich in 1975, we get the feeling that the golden age of jazz has never ended. Utilising their experience of having played together for long decades, they are able to foretell the ideas of the other.
