Vito Szelevényi Quartet

Vito Szelevényi Quartet

The lineup of Vito Szelevényi's recently formed quartet may give the impression of a rather traditional jazz band. Although their music draws heavily from the jazz tradition, it cannot ultimately be categorised so simply.  more

The bandleader graduated in classical trumpet from the Budapest Academy of Music and, since he was a young boy, he has listened to and heard a variety of styles of music, all of which have inspired his own compositions. His groove-driven, rhythmic ideas are transformed into melodic, intimate songs. Above the simple, repetitive written bases, improvisation leads the musicians on new paths. Thanks to the successive and almost interdependent bases, there are often no distinct, separate tracks. This evening will be the fourth live concert of the recently formed group.

 Featuring:

    Vito Szelevényi - trumpet
    Péter Ajtai - double bass
    Sámuel Baló - piano

Our offer

The quartet of István Grencsó, Szilárd Mezei, Ernő Hock and Szilveszter Miklós brings together musicians who all admire spontaneous music of the moment. After years of organizing, they performed together for the first time in February 2023.

The blending of Bossa Nova and jazz is a story going back to over half a century and opened up a whole new world way beyond the meeting of the pioneers, Carlos Antonio Jobim, Stan Getz and others.

The series A Genius Is Born is a tribute to the male choir works by the three greatest Hungarian masters of music, so it is no coincidence that the concerts are taking place on the composers' birthdays. A special feature of the concert programme is that StEFREM's personal selection of works by the classical composers is complemented by outstanding and interesting pieces by their "heirs", the Hungarian composers of the 20th and 21st centuries.
