The name of the band gives a clue: the primary goal of Trio à la Kodály is to present new reflections on Kodály's works, which, from a 21st century perspective, draw attention to the inexhaustibly rich world of Hungarian music, especially folk music.

The three musicians also indulge in collective improvisation, which is intended to emphasize that the works used as a starting point and the new compositions by the band should be interpreted first and foremost as a live musical process. The compositions on Kodály's themes also pay tribute to his work and musical spirit. The title of the orchestra's 2017 album – Hommage – indicates this intention; the concert will feature songs from this album.

The program arc starts from “classical” composers who also wrote for the movies—among them Camille Saint-Saëns, Sergei Prokofiev, and Darius Milhaud—and reaches all the way to icons of film music such as Henry Mancini, Hans Zimmer, and John Williams. Along the way, the audience can recall favorite film experiences like “The Godfather,” “The Pink Panther,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” and “Star Wars.”
