Salamon Tűzkő Quintet (HU)
Featuring:
Salamon Tűzkő - trumpet
Márton Papp - alto saxophone
Balázs Horváth - piano
Brúnó Barakonyi - double bass
Máté Éles - drums
The band members – special prize winners of the Müpa Jazz showcase and the Budapest Jazz Combo Competition – take to the stage with the aim of bringing together the musical-aesthetic qualities they have experienced in their lives and making this experience available to their fellow musicians in the physical space of their own instruments. The members of the orchestra have been obsessively exploring these experiences for years, both separately and together, each on their own instrument: Máté Éles, one of the most sought-after musicians of the young generation of the Hungarian jazz scene, on drums, Balázs Horváth, who has won first prizes at several national jazz competitions, on piano, Márton Papp, Louis Armstrong Prize winner, on alto saxophone, and Brúnó Barakonyi, a young genius of diversity on bass, who is well versed in various modern styles from funky to pop, rock and techno. Most of the compositions are scored by the bandleader trumpeter, Salamon Tűzkő, a student at the University of Graz.

The series A Genius Is Born is a tribute to the male choir works by the three greatest Hungarian masters of music, so it is no coincidence that the concerts are taking place on the composers' birthdays. A special feature of the concert programme is that StEFREM's personal selection of works by the classical composers is complemented by outstanding and interesting pieces by their "heirs", the Hungarian composers of the 20th and 21st centuries.
They recorded this album 1979 in Japan at an open-air festival, and they are on fire all the way through, displaying huge dynamism and vast perspectives, all five of them breathing as one. They only played originals until the encore, showing compositional bravado, exciting harmonic changes, and intriguing dialogues.
